About the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Soon after its founding in 1817 the New York Academy of Sciences began publishing the highly regarded series now known as the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. (Annals Information) Each of the 28 volumes published each year constitutes a sharply focused picture of a field of research at a critical point in its development. Each Annals volume contains edited, reviewed papers based on presentations made at symposia, conferences, and workshops held around the world.

Current Contents has described Annals volumes as "book-length reviews of a subject, combining both original research and review articles from researchers working in a variety of disciplines. The Annals volumes serve as a baseline source of information for years to come and ... attempt to place the individual studies within a wider context." The Annals consistently rank in the top two percent of most frequently cited scientific/technical/medical publications, with an impact factor that has steadily increased over the last decade to 1.593 in the year 2001, according to the Journal Citation Reports published by the Institute for Scientific Information.

The Annals online contains the full content of each volume in the series, including all figures and tables. In addition, the full text is searchable by keyword, and the cited references include hyperlinks to Medline and to the full text of many other online journals.

Online Archives

Online full-text content begins with Volume 837 (Preventive Strategies for Living in a Chemical World, December 1997); tables of contents are online beginning with Volume 114(2) (Unusual Forms and Aspects of Cancer in Man, April 1964).

Online Access

Access to full text and PDF downloads of Annals articles is available by institutional site license — included with all institutional print subscriptions — to Active members of the Academy and and on a pay-per-view basis to Associate Members, Affiliates and nonmembers. Access to abstracts and tables of contents is free and available to all on the Internet.

Each volume appears online at approximately the date it is mailed to subscribers, so online availability may be days or even weeks ahead of receipt of a print copy.

Tables of Contents

Table of contents of the upcoming volumes will regularly be placed online as a future table of contents.

We encourage you to sign the guestbook on your first visit to the site-this will give us helpful information on how you are connecting to us. Your comments, critiques, questions, or suggestions, sent via the Feedback button found on all pages of the site, will help us decide what new features would be most valuable for the site, and how well it is working for its readers.

Proposals and Guidelines

The Annals welcomes proposals to publish proceedings from scientific conferences, particularly those in leading-edge interdisciplinary areas related to biomedical sciences (Proposal Guidelines). If the topic of the meeting and the proposal materials are deemed appropriate for possible publication in the Annals, the proposal will be sent out for peer review. Proposals should be as complete as possible, in order to facilitate the review process. An offer to publish papers from the conference will be made based on the feedback obtained during the review process. Submit proposals to: Acquistions Editor, Annals of the NYAS, 2 East 63rd Street, New York, NY 10021 (editorial{at}nyas.org). Specific guidelines for manuscript preparation are posted on the Academy's website (Manuscript Submission).
